Hemp has been making recent headway in the news as it has both practical and wellness purposes. 1.) Until the introduction of the cotton gin in the 1820s, 80% of fabrics, textiles, clothes and linens were made from hemp.
2.) Hemp was the largest cash crop of the 20th century. It was the first crop grown in the US and in 1850, Kentucky alone produced 40,000 tons. In 1938, it was referred to as the “billion dollar crop.” It was the first time a cash crop had the potential to exceed a billion dollars.
3.) Many of Vincent Van Gogh and Rembrant van Rijn’s first paintings were done on hemp canvases.

4.) Henry Ford’s Model-T was referred to as “the car grown from the soil". It had hemp plastic panels and was built to run on hemp gasoline. These hemp panels’ impact strength is 10 times stronger than steel!

6.) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers grew hemp. Benjamin Franklin owned one of the first paper mills in America that processed hemp.

7.) Hemp can slow global warming. Global warming is caused by high carbon dioxide levels and hemp absorbs four times more carbon dioxide than trees.

8.) Whole hemp seeds contain approximately 25% protein, 31% fat (in the form of nutritious oil) and 34% carbohydrates. Hemp oil is often used as a dietary supplement .
9.) Hemp oil can be used to make soap due to its vitamin and mineral content. The richness of vitamin E fosters skin-tissue health and its vitamin C gives skin even tone and elasticity.
