Essential Questions to Ask about Your CBD

Like any dietary supplement, vitamin, or pretty much ANY product on the market, it is imperative to check your CBD oil to make sure you are getting what you are expecting. What you choose to put inside your body, whether it is orally ingested, administered topically or inhaled inherently becomes part of you. This is why it’s crucial to read the labels of any CBD product you purchase just as you would a nutrition label to make sure you're getting the CBD oil that suits your needs best. This can be a daunting task if you have no idea what you’re looking for. Luckily, we’ve broken this down into four essential questions to ask as you shop for your CBD oil and supplements.

1.) What is in the CBD oil?

This seems like a no brainer. Just put some hemp or high CBD/low THC marijuana in an oil or lotion and call it good, right? Not necessarily. If you don’t double check your ingredients you may get a product that contains fillers, solvents, preservatives, and additives you weren’t expecting. We’ll explore this in our next question more, but unless you ensure the product contains non-GMO hemp, you may get a product where hemp was cultivated using pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers. If you are looking for a pure, decarboxylated CBD oil, we HIGHLY recommend Active CBD Oil products you can purchase here at DiscoverCBD.

2.) Where was the hemp grown?

You may think it doesn’t matter, but this can present dicey issues when it comes to hemp cultivation. CBD is extracted from hemp flowers, stalks, and leaves. Several countries in Europe and around the globe have far less stringent agricultural practices and policies than the U.S. Therefore, when they claim their products are “organic” or “non-GMO,” it may not be what we expect when it comes to U.S. standards. When exploring CBD products, put in some additional research to look into every company, see where the hemp is grown, and read the labels (we can’t stress this enough!). If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to the company. Any legitimate hemp farmer should be more than happy to answer your questions and will have nothing to hide. DiscoverCBD carefully selects and reviews all products that we carry to ensure quality and purity. You can feel free to contact us too, to ask about any products on our site!

3.) How is the hemp processed?

Knowing how the hemp is processed is equally important. Perfectly cultivated, genuinely organic hemp can be tainted when it’s processed with harsh solvents like butane that are used to extract the oil. Many butane-extracted concentrates and extracts can be safe enough, but we tend to advise against such a harsh chemical regardless of circumstance. Your best bet is to stick to a safe food-grade extraction method such as supercritical CO2. This does not leave potentially harmful residue.

4.) How much CBD is actually in the product?

Make sure to figure out exactly how much CBD is in your products so manufacturers don’t pull the wool over your eyes. Be wary of claims that offer excessive amounts of CBD for a low price and take the time to put additional research into those products. Don’t be afraid to ask manufacturers for third party verification of cannabinoid and CBD content. A product may have a label that screams out a large percentage, but that does not necessarily indicate a percentage by volume and there can be a bunch of fine print.

As mentioned, DiscoverCBD takes great pride in offering a wide selection of quality CBD products. We review all products ourselves before putting them up on our shop and only purchase items that are made ethically with no fine print.
