April 12, 2022What is CBD?
Are you new to the CBD world? If so, this article will be a great way to introduce yourself to CBD. If not, it's a lovely reminder of what makes CBD special! Cannabidiol or CBD is a common, naturally occurring cannabinoid that can be extracted from Cannabis and Hemp plants. Although considered psychoactive, it is not intoxicating. It comes in the form of tinctures, gummies, salves, lotion, and much more!
Is CBD legal?
CBD is legal only when derived from the hemp plant according to the 2018 Farm Bill. It is allowed when the THC content is under 0.3%. If you want to learn more about the specific regulations, see the USDA Principles on Hemp.
How can CBD be psychoactive and non-intoxicating at the same time?
Due to CBD’s ability to activate serotonin receptors in the brain, it is psychoactive. However, it is non-intoxicating. For instance, when using traditional Delta 9 THC, there is a change in mental state and for that reason, it is intoxicating. With CBD, most people report dulled pain, less stress, less anxiety, etc. To put things into perspective, it helps to compare CBD to other things that are psychoactive and non-intoxicating such as caffeine and Tylenol.
What do you mean CBD works better with other cannabinoids?
CBD works better when used with other cannabis compounds such as THC. This is known as the Entourage Effect. Specifically, it refers to the combination of cannabinoids working synergistically to give a more therapeutic effect versus using CBD isolate alone. On the other hand, there are certain conditions where the cannabinoid, THC, might not be best for everyone. Luckily, there’s lots of CBD to choose from!
How is CBD Differentiated?
Not all CBD is the same! There’s full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate. Full spectrum is a whole hemp plant extract which includes THC, minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. The THC content is less than 0.3% and isn’t enough to cause intoxication. Broad spectrum is similar to full spectrum in that it has the same cannabinoids minus THC. CBD isolate is only CBD with no other cannabinoids.
Who can use it?
CBD is safe for pets, children, adults as well as older folks. At Discover CBD, we have four pet-specific products and other items that are pet friendly such as our Active CBD Isolate MCT tinctures. As far as children taking CBD goes, it’s always best to avoid full spectrum and keep an eye out for any medications that could interact with CBD in the liver . Always keep an eye out for the grapefruit warning label on medications which could interact with CBD negatively. CBD has numerous great uses for people and pets from helping ease anxiety to alleviating severe pain.
To Sum it Up
Cannabidiol can be a great way to relieve mental and physical pain in a natural way. It’s legal, and comes in three forms: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate. While considered psychoactive, it is non-intoxicating. There is the Entourage Effect which suggests that CBD works better with other cannabis compounds present. It’s safe for almost everyone and our beloved pets. When it comes to CBD, there’s so much to learn and try. Be sure to check out what we offer, and have fun!
