In the last few years, cannabinoids like CBD and THC have taken the world by storm, and considering all the potential benefits they can offer, it really comes as no surprise. What might surprise you though is the fact that there is another entirely different collection of compounds in the cannabis plant that could offer their own unique set of benefits. Terpenes are the source of a plant's aromas and, when smoked, provide a litany of flavors as well. Ask any cannabis enthusiast their favorite strain and you’re more than likely to get a description of both these features. Ask them to pick out a new strain to try, and they’ll probably smell the options more than look at them. So why do we put so much stock into something so simple as smell when it comes to hemp or marijuana products? The simple answer is that the terpenes can make just as big of a difference as the cannabinoid content, and provide additional or synergistic benefits of their own. The most commonly found terpene in commercial cannabis plants, and their derived products, is called myrcene.
