How Do I Know How Much CBD Tincture to Take?

In this article, we will be discussing a simple way to find your daily dose of CBD, as well as discuss some considerations when determining if you’ve reached your ideal dose.

As with any supplement that you are taking, it is also a good idea to discuss your taking of CBD with your physician.  Especially if you are taking blood thinners, like warfarin, or any medication that warns against consuming grapefruit (i.e. blood thinners, organ rejection medication, etc.) you may want to have your medical professional monitor your health as you take CBD so that if necessary, they can adjust your medication accordingly.

Things You’ll Need

A fun way to look at finding your CBD tincture dosage is to think of yourself as a science experiment. The more you are willing to experiment with how you take your CBD, the more you can improve your results, or even save yourself some money in the long run.

The 3 basic things you will need are:

1.) A notebook and pen/pencil

-You will need to take notes on the tincture dosage you’ve taken each day as well as any effects felt

2.) A reputable CBD tincture with glass dropper

-It is important that your CBD tincture comes from a reputable and safe company.  Not only is it more likely that you will not experience positive effects if you are using a poor quality tincture, you can risk hurting yourself if the tincture is not tested for safety.

3.) A Mindset of Patience, Discipline, and Curiosity

Many people are inconsistent with taking their CBD tincture dose each day, or expect results immediately, or are not tracking how much they are taking each day.  Unfortunately, this can lead to believing that CBD isn’t working for them, or not being able to maintain the results they achieve from taking their tincture.

It is important to be patient and allow 2-4 weeks for results to be felt.  Also, that you are disciplined in remembering to take your daily dose (and knowing how much you are taking). Finally, if you are curious and note how things like your diet can affect your results (more on that later in the article!), you can really maximize your use of CBD.

Dosing Considerations

Here are four basic things to keep in mind as you are trying to figure out how much of a CBD tincture you should take for your needs.

1.) Each Type of Tincture Can Have a Different Personal Dosing Requirement

Many people start with a full-spectrum tincture when they begin taking CBD products. However, you may have started with a broad spectrum tincture, or isolate tincture, or maybe you tried two different tinctures at once.

If you’re new to the different types of tinctures, check out this article “What is the Difference Between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and CBD Isolate?”

Each type of tincture tends to affect people differently.  Also, each type of tincture may require a different dose for you to achieve your desired effect.  For example, you may find that you need to take twice as much CBD isolate tincture for your desired effect, than you do of a broad-spectrum CBD tincture - and vice versa.

It’s important to NOT assume that your dosage will be the same from tincture to tincture, even within the same brand.

2.) What You Eat Can Affect Your Dosage.

Most people end up taking the same dosage each day.  This is not right or wrong - it depends on you and your body!

With that being said, some people have found that if they have a high fat meal one day, and a lower fat meal another day, they may need more or less CBD to achieve their desired result.

There are many variables related to food that can affect your CBD dosage, and fat is one of the most well known dietary factors affecting CBD dosage.

It may be worthwhile to experiment with your dosage depending on if you just ate (or recently ate) a fatty meal before taking your CBD for the day.

3.) Different Types of Tinctures Can Give You Different Effects

Some people decide to only use one type of tincture - a full-spectrum, a broad-spectrum, or a CBD isolate tincture. But, many people have also found that they can achieve different results depending on which type of tincture they take.

For example, 10mg of a CBD isolate tincture may help you sleep better, while 10mg of a full-spectrum tincture may help you with pain relief.

Most people find it worthwhile to try the different types of CBD tinctures as they experiment to discover what kind of effects each tincture can provide them.

4.) Different Dosages Can Give You Different Effects

Similar to the previous consideration, different doses of the same tincture can provide different effects.

For example, you could take 10mg of a CBD isolate tincture and it could help you sleep, and if you take 50mg of CBD isolate, it may help with pain relief.

A Simple Dosing Schedule to Follow

On average, most customers using a full-spectrum or broad spectrum tincture tend to take anywhere between 5mg - 15mg a day, while most taking a CBD isolate tincture tend to take anywhere from 10m - 50mg a day. It truly depends on the person, which tincture they are using, and their desired effect.

A typical starting regimen for someone taking a full-spectrum tincture is to take 2.5mg or a quarter dropper full of tincture (see image below) for three days, and then record any effects felt in a notebook (better sleep, less stress, less pain, etc.).

Then, they can take 5mg or a half dropper full of tincture, for three days, and then record any effects felt in a notebook.

After that, 7.5mg or 3/4th dropper full for three days….

And then 10mg or an entire dropper full for three days…

Some people continue taking more at three day intervals until they no longer see an increase in effects, OR some people stop at the dosage where they first start feeling beneficial effects. Each dosage can depend on the person and taking the least amount of CBD tincture needed is the most economical option.

Closing Notes

It can take as long as 2-4 weeks to truly feel the effects of CBD. It can also take about that amount of time to discover your own personal dosage.

Many people find the journey well worth it and tend to simply stay at the same, personal daily dose once they find it.

Everyone’s body is different, which is why it is important to find what works for you and not assume that the average dose is your ideal dose.

At Discover CBD, we tend to be a person’s first introduction to CBD, and have helped many beginners get on the right path to having an effective CBD experience.
