Tutorial: Active CBD oil - Gold 25% and Active CBD oil - Green 17% CBD Oil

The Complete Guide to Active CBD oil Gold 25% and Active CBD oil Green 17%

In 2015, Discover CBD set out on a mission; to help everyone discover the potential benefits of CBD. To achieve this, the company’s founders created their own line of Colorado crafted CBD products, sold under the name Active CBD oil. The Active CBD oil line was created to bring easy access to CBD oil to those who desperately needed it. In 2015, finding high quality CBD oil outside of the medical marijuana industry was extremely difficult. Hundreds of families moved to Colorado to be able to more freely access CBD products. Many of these families were stuck on long waiting lists due to the demand. At the time, most CBD oil contained more than 0.3% THC. Many of these products contained 1-3% THC and were required to be sold in a dispensary. That is why we created the Active CBD oil line. We wanted to give people free access to products that contained very low levels of THC (or none at all) but were high in CBD. Active CBD oil Gold 25% and Active CBD oil Green 17% were the very first products of the Active CBD oil line.

Active CBD oil Gold 25%

The Active CBD oil Gold 25% is a pure THC-free CBD oil. The pure CBD oil is stored in a plastic 1ml syringe. The Active CBD oil Gold 25% is a broad spectrum product which means that the oil contains CBD as well as some minor cannabinoids such as CBN, CBC and CBG, as well as an assortment of vitamins and minerals but does not contain THC. A lot of people choose this product if they are looking to avoid THC, but still want to take advantage of the entourage effect. Each syringe contains 1 gram of CBD oil.

How much CBD is in the Active CBD oil Gold 25%?

Each 1ml syringe of the Active CBD oil Gold 25% contains 1 gram (1000mg) of CBD oil and 250mg of pure CBD. The 25% refers to the concentration of the CBD molecule in the pure oil. The other 75% of the oil is the terpenes, lipids, vitamins, minerals and other minor cannabinoids. If the concentration of the pure CBD oil was at 100% - it would not be an oil any longer and instead would be what we call an “isolate”. When you remove all the lipids, fats, terpenes, vitamins, minerals and other minor cannabinoids from CBD oil, the substance becomes a fine white powder since it is exclusively made up of the CBD molecule. This is CBD isolate which Discover CBD sells as well.

Why is one pure CBD oil at 25% and the other at 17%?

High percentages of CBD oil is hard to work with and dispense. CBD oils that test above 60% tend to harden over time and crystalize in the syringe. This can make it impossible to remove from a container or accurately dose without cumbersome prior heating. By keeping the total CBD concentration around 20%, there are enough terpenes left in the pure oil to keep it in oil form. The oil is sticky and very similar to the consistency of honey. The Active CBD oil Gold 25% goes through an additional process to remove the THC from the oil. The process refines the oil and does remove some lipids and fats as well as some of the other minor cannabinoids. This allows us to maintain a higher percentage of broad spectrum CBD oil than the full spectrum Active CBD oil Green 17%.

What is Pure CBD oil?

Both Active CBD oil Gold 25% and Active CBD oil Green 17% are pure CBD oils. Pure CBD oil refers to CBD oil in its raw form. Our Pure CBD oil is extracted from Colorado Hemp plants using CO2 extraction. This extraction process leaves behind no trace chemicals unlike butane and ethanol extractions. Pure CBD oil has a thick, honey-like consistency unlike a tincture which is CBD oil mixed with a carrier oil. What sets pure CBD oil apart from a tincture is that pure CBD oil still contains all the original terpenes and lipids from the plant. We do not add any terpenes, preservatives, flavors, or carrier oils to this product. This is as close to the plant as you can get.

Terpenes & Lipids

Terpenes and Lipids make up a good percentage of pure CBD oil. The terpenes and lipids present in the oil are naturally occurring from the extraction of the hemp plant. Terpenes refer to the flavonoids found in plants. This is what gives plants their smell, taste and other characteristics. Terpenes that are commonly found in Active CBD oil pure CBD oils are myrcene, limonene, pinene, and β-caryophyllene. Lipids refer to the fats present in the pure CBD oil. The lipids and fats from the plant are commonly referred to as hemp oil. Hemp oil by itself does not contain CBD even though it is derived from the same source. The difference between hemp oil and pure CBD oil is that pure CBD has the addition of the terpenes, minor cannabinoids and CBD content.

Entourage Effect

The entourage effect refers to the potential benefits of utilizing the whole plant rather than just a piece. A common comparison is made between a player and a team. You can be the best at your sport and the best on your team but as good as one player is - they are stronger together as a full team. Many customers prefer to use Broad Spectrum or Full Spectrum CBD products because they want to take advantage of the entourage effect. The difference between broad spectrum and full spectrum CBD products is the content of THC. Broad spectrum products will contain zero THC whereas full spectrum products will contain a trace amount of THC below 0.3%. Active CBD oil Gold 25% is our most pure broad spectrum product. Active CBD oil Green 17% is our most pure full spectrum product. Nothing removed and nothing added.

How to use Pure CBD oil

Since pure CBD oil has a thick consistency, it is stored in a 1ml plastic syringe. To use pure CBD oil, simply remove the black plastic cap at the bottom of the syringe. Gently push the plunger on the top of the syringe and dispense the oil out onto your finger or into a spoon. We recommend pushing the oil out onto a spoon for your first time because if you push out too much oil, you can draw the oil back into the syringe. Once the oil is dispensed, place the CBD oil directly under your tongue. Hold the oil under your tongue for 30-60 seconds. This allows the oil to absorb into your blood vessels under your tongue and more directly enter your bloodstream. After waiting for the oil to absorb (30-60 seconds), swallow the remaining oil in your mouth. Most customers will drink a beverage directly after ingesting their CBD oil. For customers who dislike the taste of Pure CBD oil, we see a lot of customers mixing the CBD oil with a little honey to sweeten up the overall taste.

Why does it come in a syringe?

Pure CBD oil comes in a syringe because of its thick consistency and high concentration. The easiest way to dispense and measure pure CBD oil is by packaging it in a plastic syringe. The small 1ml plastic syringe allows you to easily measure each dose of pure CBD oil. For instance, 0.1ml of the Active CBD oil Gold 25% is about the size of a grain of rice but contains 25mg of CBD. For customers looking to take high doses of CBD, you are easily able to take 100mg of CBD without having to consume several droppers of a tincture or eat a handful of gummies.

Why are there air bubbles in my syringe?

Occasionally, there will be air bubbles present in your pure CBD oil. Air bubbles are present in both the Active CBD oil Gold 25% and the Active CBD oil Green 17%. Air bubbles happen automatically when we put the oil into the syringe. The pure oil is packaged when it is hot and so as it begins to cool, it contracts and will create air bubbles. All Active CBD oil syringes are made to the weight of 1 gram as measured by GMP certified scales. We do not go off the total volume of the syringe but instead by the weight and thus mgs. The syringe measures volume to 1cc. The lines on the syringe are there to help measure the amount of oil that you are looking to dispense but doesn’t necessarily exactly measure the total weight of the oil. 1 gram is pretty close to 1cc, but not exactly. However, 1 gram is exactly 1000mg of oil. The hotter the pure oil is when it is put into the syringe, the more air bubbles will be there. The pure oil never gets hot enough to melt the plastic syringe or remove any CBD. The oil is only slightly warmed so that it can easily be packaged and accurately measured and weighed.

Parts of a Syringe

There are several parts of a syringe that will help you with using the product properly. The black tip on the syringe keeps the oil from leaking out of the syringe during transit. This black tip is referred to as a cap and can be used to aid in the storage of your CBD oil. The barrel is the bulk of the syringe and is what is filled with CBD oil. The barrel of the 1cc syringe used in the Active CBD oil Gold 25% and the Active CBD oil Green 17% will have markings up the side showing each 0.1ml mark. The markings on the barrel help you measure the CBD oil as you are dispensing it. The plunger is the white topper of the syringe. The plunger pushes down on the oil and pushes it out of the syringe. Drawing upwards on the plunger will allow you to pull oil back up into the syringe. At the bottom of the plunger is a black rubber stopper. The black rubber stopper varies in size, but seals the plunger into the syringe. The black rubber stopper may expand over time to prevent any CBD oil from escaping out of your syringe. Since the oil is weighed into the syringe, the size of the black rubber stopper does not affect the amount of oil that you receive.

Tips and Tricks to getting your oil out of the syringe

Oil can become thick when it's too cold.  If you are having trouble getting oil out of either the Active CBD oil Gold 25% or the Active CBD oil Green 17%, we have a few tips that might help you. If the oil seems very thick and is hard to dispense, there is a simple way to fix this issue.  Slightly warm up the oil by running a towel under hot water and then wrap the syringe in the hot towel. This will slightly warm the oil and allow it to flow more easily out of the syringe. If you are having trouble measuring the oil or it seems like the oil is sticking to the sides of the syringe, move the plunger of the syringe back and forth until the oil flows more easily. If the oil is too runny and comes out of the syringe too quickly, you can set the syringe in the fridge for about 10 minutes or you can dispense the oil out onto a spoon so that you are able to easily draw the oil back up into the syringe if you dispense too much.

Easy Sublingual Application

Pure CBD oil is intended to be used sublingually. Sublingual application requires you to place the oil directly under your tongue, hold it there for 30-60 seconds and then swallow the remaining oil. There is no needle on the syringe and this product is not to be injected. We do have customers who use the pure CBD oil topically. However, the consistency of the oil is very thick and cannot be spread on large parts of the body. Customers who do use pure CBD oil topically will use around a pea sized amount on a targeted area of the body. Discover CBD carries a wide range of CBD oil topicals that are easier to use for topical applications while maintaining high quality and high potency such as our very popular 1100mg CBD salve or our newer full spectrum 3000mg salve

How to read a syringe properly

There are black marks across the barrel of the pure CBD oil syringe. Each line is marked with a number starting at 0.1ml and reaching 1.0ml with numbers marked at 0.1ml increments. By slowly pushing the plunger down into the syringe, you can measure the amount of oil dispensed. The Active CBD oil Gold 25% will contain 25mg of CBD per 0.1ml marker, there are approximately 10 of this size dose in each syringe. The Active CBD oil Green 17% will contain 17mg of CBD per 0.1ml marker. By dispensing the oil onto your finger or onto a spoon, you can see the amount of CBD that you are dispensing out. If you dispense the oil directly into your mouth, it can be difficult to know how much you are dispensing and it is impossible to draw any of the oil back into the syringe if you dispense too much. CBD works on a bell curve, so too much CBD has a similar effect as too little. You cannot easily overdose on CBD but taking a very high amount of CBD may make it less effective.

The History of Pure CBD oil and RSHO

When the CBD industry was just beginning, access to CBD was very limited. Since this was prior to the 2018 Farm Bill, high quality non-GMO hemp was hard to source. CBD products were hard to find outside of a cannabis dispensary in a state that had legalized either medical or recreational cannabis. In 2015, 23 states still prohibited all cannabis sales outright (link: Marijuana laws vary by state | CNN). While medical cannabis had been available for a while, Colorado was celebrating their first year with recreational sales. Selections on edibles, concentrates and topicals were more limited due to the infancy of the industry and the high demand. Most CBD products were only available in dispensaries due to the THC content if they were available at all; some dispensaries only carried CBD flower. Many parents moved to Colorado to get access to cannabis medicine for their children and wanted easier ways to give it to their children hence the formation of companies like Discover CBD. Many people cannot smoke or do not wish to inhale smoke to consume cannabinoids. Many people turned to using the CBD flower and infusing it into an oil to be able to use it in other forms. They used the CBD flower infused oil to create edibles or apply to their skin or take directly under their tongue instead of smoking it. We created Discover CBD and the Active CBD oil line to help everyone discover the potential benefits of CBD. Our first product was simply pure CBD oil - the Active CBD oil line was the Active CBD oil Gold 25% and the Active CBD oil Green 17%.

The difference between RSHO and RSO

RSHO and RSO are very similar acronyms and both relate to the cannabis industry. However, the two oils vary slightly in the make up. RSHO is an acronym for Real Scientific Hemp Oil and was largely a marketing name that has no specific traits. RSO refers to Rick Simpson Oil. Rick Simpson documented how to extract CBD and THC utilizing multiple methods of extraction using solvents that range from relatively safe such as ethanol to not safe at all such as naptha. RSO contains high amounts of THC and varying amounts of other cannabinoids depending on the strain that the oil was extracted from. The difference between the Active CBD oil Green 17% and RSO is both the THC content and the extraction method as well as the refined techniques of extraction used in the Active CBD oil line that are not used when making RSO.

Does CBD oil expire?

CBD products such as gummies, chocolates and baked goods can expire. This can include products such as dog treats and cat treats. The other ingredients in the product besides the CBD can expire as well. These types of products typically have a shelf life of two years or less. Topical products typically have longer shelf life than edible products but that can depend greatly on the other ingredients that are in the topical formulation. Tinctures can vary greatly depending on the flavors, preservatives or other ingredients in the tincture. Our Active CBD oil tinctures do not include PEG (polyethylene glycol), PG (propylene glycol) or other fillers and have a two year shelf life. Highly concentrated products such as CBD isolate and pure CBD oil can be shelf stable much longer than two years. With high concentration products, there really isn’t anything in it that would expire. After large amounts of time or improper storage, however, concentrated forms of CBD can potentially begin to lose their potency depending. We have a two year shelf life on our pure CBD oil products to ensure optimal potency levels and we 3rd party test our products regularly to ensure that the pure CBD oil is of the highest quality possible.

What does Pure CBD oil taste like?

Pure CBD oil has a plant like, earthy taste. Many customers have described the flavor from pine to fresh cut grass to horrible. Since both the Active CBD oil Gold 25% and the Active CBD oil Green 17% contain all the original terpenes and flavors of the original hemp plant, the oil has a strong plant taste which is somewhat bitter. While some people like the natural flavor, many people do not like the taste of pure CBD oil. You can mix the pure CBD oil into a little honey or yogurt to help mask the taste but still be able to hold it under your tongue to maximize absorption. If you are very sensitive to taste, thankfully it's not 2015 anymore and Discover CBD offers lots of options such as the Active CBD oil in a water soluble capsule form.

Why some batches taste different

Each batch of Active CBD oil Gold 25% and Active CBD oil Green 17% may taste different from each other. While all of our hemp is derived from Colorado grown non-GMO hemp, we often receive different strains or strain combinations depending on the current harvest. Strain type is identified by the terpenes among other minor things present in the plant at the time of harvest. Since we preserve the original terpenes, each batch will taste slightly different than one another due to its unique terpene makeup.

Consistency of Pure CBD oil

Pure CBD oil has a thick consistency that is very similar to honey. The oil is very sticky because of the high concentration of CBD in the oil among other things. CBD oil tinctures have diluted amounts of pure cbd for ease of use, taste and overall convenience. CBD oil tinctures are diluted with a carrier oil such as MCT oil or VG depending on whether they are a water dispersible product such as our water soluble Active CBD oil 900 mg or our MCT based isolate CBD tinctures where as the water soluble CBD oil tinctures are more efficient at entering your bloodstream and contain multiple other hemp byproducts to include other minor cannabinoids the MCT based tinctures taste much better but contain just CBD, MCT and flavoring. Pure CBD oil is not diluted and has to be dispensed via a plastic syringe for easy measurement.

Why are the Active CBD oil Gold 25% and the Active CBD oil Green 17% the same price?

The Active CBD oil Gold 25% used to be much more expensive than the Active CBD oil Green 17% oil. The process to remove the THC from the Active CBD oil Gold 25% once was more expensive and time consuming than it is today. As the market grew to what it is today, the accessibility of CBD has changed and much more THC removed oil is made than raw oil thus reducing the cost significantly and this has allowed us to reduce the price of both the Active CBD oil Gold 25% and the Active CBD oil Green 17% to make this product even more affordable to the people who need it most.
