U.K. announces CBD as medicine

Many people in need of medical relief have not been able to turn to CBD, for fear of breaking the law, and the confusion over the legality of it. This leads many to try prescription pills that their doctor recommends,  which can result in suffering from greater side effects, than the original condition. However, the UK recently deemed CBD as a medicine and in doing so cleared up a few hurdles for patients but also created a few for CBD manufacturers.

The UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) claimed CBD has a restoring, correcting, or modifying effect on physiological functions when administered. In a statement to TIME, the MHRA announced, "We have come to the opinion that products containing CBD are a medicine. Products for therapeutic use must have a medicines' license before they can be legally sold, supplied, or advertised in the UK."

Although this spells hardships for current CBD retailers, it also opens the doors for legitimate medical treatments for those who weren't informed previously on the benefits of CBD. Recognizing CBD as a medicine means actual prescriptions/recommendations for patients! There is no more grey area as to where CBD stands in the UK. While having a consult with your doctor regarding CBD will now be easier than ever, many are worried the ability to obtain CBD after the announcement.

Previously, citizens were able to drive to their local vape shop or hop online, and purchase this miracle supplement. Now that CBD is recognized as a medicine, CBD suppliers must have a medicine license to sell the products, which is causing issues for many. With big pharma controlling CBD, people will now be turned away from their local shop and told to speak with their doctor. For many people, affording a visit to the doctor is not possible, let alone, paying for the CBD itself.

We are excited about this announcement however, it shows extreme progress to recognize Cannabis as having medical benefits. There will always be cons to every situation, but we are hoping the issues are solved timely for the many seeking CBD as treatment!
