Is CBD oil going to help me?

Is CBD Oil Right for You?

CBD oil products continue to capture headlines and consumer interest. They can be purchased online and shipped to all 50 states, and are available in select retail stores in a variety of formats, including capsules, dabs, tinctures and oral syringes. With many choices, how do you decide which CBD oil products are right for you---of if you should be using CBD oil at all? The experts at DiscoverCBD.com advise each person to conduct their own research, and to jump-start that process, here are a few tips to guide your decision-making.

Know Your Objectives

Why are you considering CBD oil? If you are after a recreational high, CBD oil is not for you. Although derived from the same basic plant and genus, Cannabis Sativa, CBD oil contains only a minimal to zero percentage of THC, the compound that induces highs. It is popular both as a dietary supplement and as an enhancer for skin and hair care products.

If you are looking for an alternative approach to addressing specific issues, such as anxiety, seizures, or insomnia, CBD may be a positive choice. You can find quality products and good information accompanied by reports from medical publications at DiscoverCBD.com.

Preliminary research and some individual doctors suggest that CBD might hold promise as an anti-inflammatory agent, and in fighting certain cancers. We can’t comment on such claims, however a nation-wide coalition of mothers does support CBD as a medical treatment and advocates its use for their children.

Be Realistic in Your Expectations

A growing number of medical practitioners recognize the value of choosing more natural, plant-based products over prescription drugs, when possible. Dr. John Hicks, a physician in Los Gatos, California, for example, advises CBD oil for his patients to ease many conditions, from insomnia to cancer. For people with inflammation issues or neurodegenerative diseases, he states it may help decrease pain and restore function to neurons.  It is important to remember that each person responds differently to any treatment or therapeutic product, and results vary from individual to individual even with the most proven protocols. In the case of CBD, research is just beginning.

Know the outcome you are looking for, even if it is just shinier hair from a CBD-enriched shampoo. But don’t expect a miracle cure or silver bullet for every condition. CBD oil has shown great promise in a wide array of situations but won’t work for everyone in every situation.

Be Aware of Drug Interactions

Before adding CBD or any new supplement to your regimen, check with your pharmacist or doctor to see how it will interact with drugs you are already taking.  Products with high CBD levels are considered safe, however, the compound may change the way certain other drugs metabolize. We suggest you always check with your physician before starting and dietary supplemet program

Stay Updated

As more research studies get under way, new findings will continue to shine a light on CBD oil. We have included here an excerpt of a report delivered to the Senate Drug Caucus by Nora D. Volkon, Director of the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA), a component of the National Institute of Health (NIH). She points out that her testimony provides an overview of what science tells us about the therapeutic potential of CBD and of the ongoing research supported by NIH.

“Interest in the potential therapeutic effects of CBD has been growing rapidly, partially in response to media attention surrounding the use of CBD oil in young children with intractable seizure disorders including Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. While there are promising preliminary data, the scientific literature is currently insufficient to either prove or disprove the efficacy and safety of CBD in patients with epilepsy and further clinical evaluation is warranted. In addition to epilepsy, the therapeutic potential of CBD is currently being explored for a number of indications including anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, schizophrenia, cancer, pain, inflammatory diseases and others.”
